Along with other Geary Collection pieces, my partner and I have obtained a beautiful Quartz with Chlorite Phantoms from California, with cards that indicate that it's a former Geary Murdock specimen. With that context, I was hoping for some help in understanding the location named by Murdock on this specimen card. I'll include a photo below, but he designates the origin of this specimen as "Ghenniss Valley, Calif." All pursuits to find this locality mentioned have fallen flat. Even trying to find a piece comparable to this one from other California locals haven't lead me in a specific direction. This piece seems to have some secret to it! Is there anyone that has encountered this nickname maybe? Or other specimens from "Ghenniss Valley", California?
(The card stock has a blue hue in this photo due to lighting, but the color & wear of the paper matches the other specimen cards from Geary Murdock we've had. Curious if this was perhaps a secret mine that was purposefully misnomered to keep private?)

I never heard of that "Ghenniss" locality before, but I'm not an expert on California. The only California locality I know for quartzes with similar chlorite phantoms is Shingle Springs:

| It really is a mystery for us right now, absolutely nothing is mentioned about this location anywhere. Thank you for including the Shingle Springs locality link though! I do think that those Quartz look as close to this specimen as I've been able to find. I really appreciate you including that! Even trying to find similar specimens had been seeming like an impossible feat. Maybe "Ghenniss Valley" was a nickname given to a small pocket or mine nearby? Hopefully we'll find some literature that will point us in the right direction.

Could it be a typo by the person who typed the label? Play with things like Chenniss, Clenniss, Glenniss, Ghemis, etc.
I know my labels have typos, US format dates (so incorrect for Europe) and old nick names on them (but the database is correct as I have updated it, used European dates, and spell checked it)
