Hi Dany, I remember you asked before ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=6714 ) and I feel sorry that no one could help so far.

I also have no idea, or let's say far too many ideas where it could be from. Germany (maybe Saxony or Black Forest or Harz Mountains), Spain (Asturias), France, England, U.S. (Illinois) and for sure several other countries, each which several localities that could be possible. I think I have even seen similar pieces from Cavnic/Romania. Not to forget China with its endless fluorite occurences. And maybe a dozen other countries I forgot :-(

Can you show us a photo of the matrix?

And are you sure the sulfide material is pyrite, not maybe chalcopyrite or marcasite?

Was there any hint when it was collected or when the collection where it was part of was assembled?

What is the orange mineral? I'm guessing it is siderite or ferroan dolomite. This is not something I associate with fluorite, at least from common Illinois localties. Knowing what it is might help shorten the list of possible localities.

Maybe it is sphalerite?

Here are more photos. I bought it an auction which was selling minerals from some collectors. The large majority of the specimens were correctly labeled and confirmed by the expert but some not like 2 or 3 I bought.

Are the fluorites simple cubes or do they express any modifications?

Hi Dany,

This piece is really a mystery, a paragenesis of common minerals with a look that you would actually consider to be distinctive, but no one knows ...

I asked some other fellow collectors and they also had no idea though they are really competent mineral people. But one of them asked a fluorite collector he knows and he gave the hint that the piece could maybe be from Lavrion/Greece.

I have no knowledge about minerals from Greece so I don't know if this is possible. Just wanted to mention it, maybe a hint that can help ...?

Regards
Tobi

Hello Matt,

they are simple cubes and each cube as a face covered with Calcite (or maybe Dolomite) like we find in some Fluorites from Moscona mine.
