Our 2024 trip to Nanjing was a HUGE success. We not only had an absolutely wonderful time, we also learned a lot about the quickly growing fine mineral collecting world in China. We eagerly look forward to our return in 2025 but, until then, here is a recap of the film clips we produced on our trip organized by the 12 Categories we identified before we left. We also created a YouTube Playlist that has them all posted in sequence according to when they filmed.
I don't want to complete flood FMF with Nanjing videos so I'll do small batches over the next few days.

Exactly two weeks from today the second annual China International Mineral Gemstone and Fossil Expo (CIMGE) will open its doors in the city of Nanjing - the capital of China's eastern Jiangsu province.
This is the latest attempt to create a new, major, international mineral show in China and, after having spoken at length to the new Show Organizers, BlueCap Productions is hopeful that this is the show that will stand the test of time.
With a population over four times that of the USA, and the number of times new Chinese specimens have come to market completely redefining our expectations of what a mineral species can be, there is an enormous potential for the mineral-collecting world from the perspective of both collectors and dealers.
Because of BlueCap Productions commitment to documenting trends and movements in the mineral world, we will be traveling to Nanjing (also written as Nanking) to report, first-hand, on this exciting new show.
We welcome you to join us on our journey and urge you to keep check back on BlueCap Productions social media channels to see our series of Nanjing 2024 video clips that we will be posting direct from the show (as LIVE as possible).

We're ONE WEEK away from the opening day at the 2024 Nanjing Show and we're ready to go!!!!
This is the Second Annual China (Nanjing) International Mineral Gemstone and Fossil Expo (CIMGE) and expectations are high for this brand new show.
As we begin our report on the show, we've decided to categorize all of our video shorts into one of twelve different categories all relating to our upcoming trip.
Those categories include:
1. Travel - how difficult was it to get from home to the hotel
2. Lodgings - review of the hotel where we stayed
3. Food - how available was good food and what was the cost and quality
4. Environment - Weather, Temperature, Air Quality, Crowds
5. Culture - cultural outings near/around hotel
6. Activities - shopping venues near/around hotel
7. Transportation - how convenient was it to travel to/from the hotel to convention hall
8. Venue - overall review size, quality, professionalism, location
9. Dealers/Minerals - review of the number of dealers and quality of products offered
10. Special Exhibits - existence of any Special Exhibit and review of display and content
11. Impressions - Feedback from other Westerners about the Nanjing experience
12. Mineral Trips - museums, private collections, digging localities in and around Nanjing
As the years go on and we visit Nanjing year and year again, more and more clips will be added to the collection within these twelve categories so that we can build a robust, on-line, video library of this exciting new show.

03 of 63 - Enroute to Nanjing for the 2024 Nanjing Mineral Show
We are enroute to Nanjing via Seoul, Korea and, in this video, I share show background tips on planning your travel to Nanjing.
Basically I found that all of the Big Three American airlines websites (Delta, American and United) did not offer me a way to book direct travel from Honolulu to Nanjing. In this video, I explain how I had to book a partial trip on Delta from Honolulu to Seoul, Korea and then book a second flight from Seoul to Nanjing on the Korean Airlines website who is partnered with Delta.
I edited out the part where I also looked at a couple of the big European airlines and British Airways does allow you to book from London to Nanjing but they had a lot of restrictions on the dates and times. However, Lufthansa (the big German airline) I found to be the most flexible in getting you from Frankfurt to Nanjing with A LOT of day and time options.
Afterwards, I show my arrival in Korea, my airport hotel where I booked my room and then a brief glimpse of me going out to dinner with my cousin Kiwoon.

04 of 63 - Arriving in Nanjing, China for the 2024 Nanjing Mineral Show
It was an afternoon departure from Incheon, Korea and a short flight to arrive in Nanjing, China. Nice, clean and LARGE airport that was, very surprisingly, not crowded at all. Immigration was a breeze, getting my luggage was no problem and my translator and a driver were waiting for me courtesy of the Show Organizers.

05 of 63 - First look at the hotel at the 2024 Nanjing Mineral Expo
I check in to Grand Metropark Hotel in downtown Nanjing and it's great. People from the Nanjing Show had set up a greeting area in the lobby so you immediately knew you were in the right place. Check in was a breeze and the room looked very modern and comfortable. A quick drop-off of my bags and it was off to the Expo Center to check it out during Set Up Day.

Another major artery for mineral gathers are the thoughts, experiences and knowledge shared among each other via the many presentations that are conducted throughout any mineral show. Here at Nanjing, they kick it up a notch with fantastic production value AND well thought-out solutions for allowing visitors to be able to understand talks given in Chinese. 13 of 63 - Onsite Cafe at the 2024 Nanjing Show
Food, food, food. How's the food at the Exhibit Hall??? Well.....while all the food we've been having here in Nanjing has been exceptional, this on-site cafe...leaves a bit to be desired. Maybe it's ok for an emergency meal but look elsewhere for better dining options.

14 of 63 - WeChat at use at the 2024 Nanjing Show
In America we use SMS Messenger. In Europe WhatsApp is the messaging app of choice. Korea has KakaoTalk. And in China, WeChat rules supreme. But WeChat is more than just a messaging app. It's a whole communication and commerce app that is almost REQUIRED use for everyone here - at least it makes life A LOT easier. In this clip I share an example of how convenient and quick WeChat is.
