PostPosted: Jan 13, 2025 14:37    Post subject: Cleaning a hematite rose

Hello everyone.
Recently I own a nice hematite rose with specular luster. Even though I'm happy with the sample I would like to know if I can enhance some spots that continues with iron oxide coating. Also, I have a hematite/goethite bubble cluster I wish to restore the luster. The two ones are on follow pics. Can I just use iron out on both? I fear to lose some shine of them.
Grateful for help.
Robson

No, do not use iron Out, oxalic acid, or hydrochloric acid! Any of those will attack the luster of hematite. Try mechanical methods, like a water gun, or a toothbrush with toothpaste. If those don't work, just leave it alone - It's beautiful enough as it is.

I totally agree with Alfredo! Especially that 7 cm hematite rose from Brumado looks already lustrous and makes a very nice and good specimen!
