Here are a few new ones from China...
Description: |
Scheelite and Quartz Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu County, Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China
62 x 58 x 48 mm
This well-balanced specimen hosts a lustrous, translucent yellowish-orange Scheelite crystal to 22 mm perched on a Muscovite matrix, and accompanied by a water-clear Quartz measuring 25 x 10 x 9 mm. Several other clear Quartz crystals and several light-cream-colored, translucent feldspar crystals to 7 mm provide additional interest. The edge of the Scheelite has several transparent Fluorite cubes intergrown along it. Only one very tiny chip is present on the Quartz termination. |

Numerous, water-clear crystals of Fluorite to 26 mm are perched on a matrix of lustrous, white Dolomite crystals. The Fluorites generally have complexly crystallized faces, although some faces are clear windowpanes. I can find no point of attachment, and the reverse consists of crystals of Dolomite and Fluorite. No damage. |

Good Chinese specimens, Bob. My favorites are the genthelvite and the scheelite with quartz from Xuebaoding.

Hey Tobi,
I really like these combos from Xuebaoding, and this is the first I've seen with the gemmy little feldspars. I wish the Scheelite was a bit oranger, but I also really like it. Too bad this locality is not producing much at present.

Thanks Carles! I like the Scheelite also. Of the Huanggangliang pieces, my favorite are the Calcite (these are rare on matrix and this has 2 distinct habits), and the Lollingite/Fluorite combo. It is much better than the photos.

A Fluorapatite (or is now Apatite-F)? from the Sapo Mine, circa 2009...
Description: |
Fluorapatite on Albite
Sapo Mine, Doce valley, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil
51.0 x 42.0 x 42.0 mm
A sharp, glassy, lustrous dark-forest-green Apatite crystal, measuring 39 x 28 x 17 mm, with slightly beveled edges is perched on a bed of white glassy Albite cystals. The Albite is sprinkled with green microcystals of Apatite and accented by several well formed green Apatite crystals. The face of the large Apatite has a series of solution pits adding to the interest. This is an outstanding specimen with no damage. |

I thought I'd post a few things from Japan...
Description: |
Orthoclase

63.0 x 52.0 x 45.0 mm
Excellent, sharp pinkish-tan Baveno twin of Orthoclase, measuring 63 x 39 x 38 mm, is accented by white blades of Albite (v. Cleavlandite) and minor Muscovite. The Takayama area was well known for these twins. From the Earl Calvert (1904-1964) collection, this specimen is pristine. |

Stibnite
Ichinokawa Mine, Saijo, Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku, Japan
87.0 x 14.0 x 12.0 mm
This single, sharp 87 mm Stibnite crystal has well-developed parallel striations and a steep pyramidal termination. The other termination is ragged. As typical of specimens from this classic Japanese locality, there are a few minor nicks, but overall the Stibnite is in very good condition. This is from the notable collection of California collector Earl Calvert (1904-1964). |

This excellent example of Japan-law twinned Quartz is from the Otome mining district which produced the specimens where this twinning was first described. This is a very transparent crystal measuring 51 x 48 x 14 mm, and has high glassy luster and well-developed striations. Only minor chipping. It is from the notable collections of Northland College (Ashland, Wisconsin), John Barlow and Gene la Berge. |

Quartz
Otome mining district, Miyamoto, Yamanashi Prefecture, Honshu, Japan
80.0 x 62.0 x 27.0 mm
This very large Quartz is from the late 1800s to early 1900s, when the original Japanese Quartz specimens were produced, from which Japan law twinning was initially described. This is an old classic. It is damaged on both on the lower-left side, on and just past the prismatic associate crystal's termination; and has a slight cleave on the back of the other termination (not seen from front). Still, this is a superbly aesthetic, dramatic piece from Japan with great provenance. Formerly in the Richard Hauck collection, the old Frederick Canfield label dates this to 1914, though it probably came to him in an older collection. Old Canfield labels are rare, as he bequeathed his entire mineral collection, plus a $50,000 endowment for its support and enlargement, to the Smithsonian Institution. Under conditions of the will, the Smithsonian may not disperse any of his specimens. |

Ferroaxinite with Quartz on Palygorskite
A slightly frosted doubly-terminated Quartz crystal, measuring 31 x 24 x 22 mm, accompanied by a small DT Quartz, forms a pseudo-scepter growth. These are complemented by up to 6 mm sherry-brown blades of Axinite. The Quartz are all attractively perched on a mat of Palygorskite ("mountain leather"). This is an excellent specimen with no damage.

Here is a new one from Huanggangliang...
Description: |
Quartz with Fluorite Huanggangliang Iron Mine, Kèshíkèténg Qí, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
58 x 50 x 46 mm
A slightly milky, palest green sceptered Quartz measuring 46 x 16 mm is surrounded by a halo of water-clear Fluorites to 25 mm. These Fluorites are of cuboctahedral habit with dodectahedral modifications, and is commonly seen from this Chinese locality, some faces are preferentially etched slightly. Only a very minor chip visible with a 10X loupe is present on the very tip of the Quartz, otherwise no damage. This is a nice association, very aesthetically presented. |
