Winding down after the show is bittersweet. The high energy of the show must come to an end...

...Everyone waits by their cases as teardown begins, you must wait for them to unlock your case, and they won't do that unless you are standing there.

It goes from hustling and bustling to sheer quiet, it is a sombering experience. All those lovely full cases of minerals suddenly gone! poof!
Jim and I had three cases, so we took just a little longer. Combine that with the farewell hugs, the shared stories, it is a priceless experience every year!

That, my friends, is pretty much it. I will add a few strays that I didn't have included, as I find them. Some were taken with my iPhone so need to include them in this back area. I also saw a few chances to have fun with my comic strip application, so will do a little teasing, so please come back and visit to see what humour I have in my head!?
I want to thank all the people who make the show so great, and I mean from those in the tents to those in hotels, etc. The Show promoters and the Tucson gem and mineral society are to be commended, yet again!
Dave Waisman, Marty and Rose Zinn, all the others that run venues and make the public feel so welcome, thank you too.
The work involved is tremendous, and the talents of so many are bestowed upon the shows. It is difficult to transport fine minerals, carry them, put them in cases for display, then pack them up again. It is the passion of the community that makes this all happen.
Every time I leave the Tucson adventure, I feel there is hope for the continuation of our wonderful chosen world of Minerals and gems. I saw enthusiastic young people every where.
I was honored when Wendell Wilson and Tom Gressman approached me and asked if I would like to be an Associate Photographer for the Mineralogical Record publication. I agreed and am just thrilled to be associated with such a fine magazine. Look for many of my photos in the next issue!
I want to thank my husband, Jim, for being patient while I took lots of photos. His passion for minerals is a joy to me, we are such a good match. Mineral shows are serious business, but we also like to think of them as a playground to enjoy together. This is a world of fun and we never forget that aspect.
Life, my dear friends, is good.
Cheers! Gail P. Copus Spann ~ a very blessed lady.

When I saw this photo, I noted that both Jim and the fellow to his left had their arms up in the same position, and all three of these fellows are wearing black tee shirts...so....

I waited for a while to write these lines, because I wanted to find the right "color" to do it, but honestly even waiting two days I can't find in my limited English language the skills to describe well what's represent the task of Gail and how hard is her job.
People can see images of us in Tucson smiling, selling/buying rocks, doing social life, and, apparently, enjoying the life, but this is the image. As Gail explains so well "the passion of the community that makes this all happen" and without this passion, we don't will receive every year the major Gail's gift of her time, sacrifying so many interesting things to do just for take photos and expend hours and hours, sometimes with bad connections, to download them for us during and after the Show.
I shared few experiences with the Spann's in Tucson and sincerely, I can't imagine other person (neither me ;-) who will be disposed to do the huge effort that represents publish hundreds and hundreds images of the whole Show, so:
A big, big, THANK YOU! for Gail (and Jim)
the mineral community owes to you a lot, I believe that the request that M.R. did to you to be her Associate Photographer is just an example of how much everybody involved in minerals recognize your indefatigable efforts to approach the mineral Shows to everybody, all over the world.

Jordi, I can't imagine how I would have done this without your GREAT site, your encouragement and your willingness to let me post pictures of other dealer's minerals, all for the sake of showing the experience of Tucson to your followers. Your generosity in having a site like this speaks volumes of your love of the minerals and the community.
Jim and I THANK YOU!

If Gail's report doesn't get more people to come to Tucson, I don't know what would. She deserves awards from the Tucson Tourist Bureau and Chamber of Commerce. Thank you both for bringing such a large and wonderful display.
