Carles Manresa says he has taken 2084 photos between Munich and Expominer (the Barcelona Show) many of which can be seen from here and from here
I do not know if the visitors of this Forum are aware of the monstrosity of work that this represents because it is not only the time it represents to do them but also to be classified, chosen, added complementary information that often must be reviewed, and publish them on FMF one by one. In addition he does it with a kind of "mineral magazine" style, so even more work...
It is impossible for someone to continue doing this indefinitely and that applies to Carles, as well as to me, as to the rest of the administrators. FMF is become very large as you can see in its statistics:
and surely it is impossible to maintain this level without burn out.
FMFers, you should start to think that we will not always be able to continue as before, so, totally free, without publicity and in which the bulk of the effort is made by a very few people.
So, soon we will have to start thinking about the economic issue. As FMF has become so big it also costs big and I will not be able to continue to pay it "bona fide" all my life so it is very possible that soon it will be necessary to raise money to cover expenses, as other web pages do. It could be via crowfunding, accepting publicity, or by donations. We have not yet reached this point but we will arrive, and when this happens I will refer to this message so that nobody can say that it has not been notified before. 🤑
And now some thoughts about the Shows. As it has happened with so many other things that little by little they have been losing their predominance by the arrival of Internet, the Shows of Minerals have been losing their hegemonic paper by the arrival of the sale of minerals on line. It is true that the same as always will exist those who want to have a book or a paper newspaper in their hands and not read them on a screen, there will also always be those who will want a mineral only if they can see it personally in order to decide on its acquisition, but it is a fact that the Shows have to work harder than before to remain competitive.
The need to make efforts due the competition is the best hallmark of innovation and that is what allows, with the innovations that Shows such as Munich are tirelessly applying every year, that the "pedraferits" (Catalan word that I think is untranslatable but that seems to me that describes perfectly who we are - literally: "wounded by the stones" ;-) we can continue enjoying that "Feast of the Rocks" that the Shows are and, beware! also of reports as wonderful as those that Carles Manresa has been giving us so far. The Internet and Mineral Shows are, contrary to what some believe, completely complementary and feed each other, as these reports prove amply.
I add some more photos to close with them my contributions to this thread, all those who have something else to add please do it. This thread does not close, I just finish my reports on it 😏
Glück auf and until Munich 2020!

Jordi,
Thank you for having internationalized your Spanish forum.
I consider it an absolutely essential reference for the lonely amateur. Even I am still, despite my age, in the treads of the University of Liège, Belgium, I find in FMF the first-class interlocutors, having a great experience. I would have a hard time losing this valuable tool. What better way to educate one's taste and knowledge?
The researchers have a direct dialogue with the mineral matter, but not with its history, origin, nature of deposits, etc.
I also admire the patience that great scientists have with beginners asking childish questions. These are perhaps the first seeds that will spawn the next generation in our hobby.
Jordi, what are the directions of survival that you are considering?
I really do not like commercials and this absence is certainly one of the great qualities of FMF.
Congratulations and gratitude, Jordi.
Roger.
PS: I still have pictures of Munich ...

Hi,
On these happy Holidays, what could be more beautiful than sparkling cut stones?
During the Mineralientage Muenchen, I met Victor Tuzlukov for several years. It seems to me that Victor Tuzlukov is one of the best lapidaries in the world, imbued with scientific training on the one hand essential to calculation prior to cut, and also gifted with exceptional philosophical reflection.
Victor must have these qualities to express his lapidary art to perfection.
He could not remain insensitive to the terrible fire that devoured the Cathedral of Paris. Its construction started in 1163, it is Gothic style. Its southern rose has escaped destruction. It inspired Victor Tuzlukov to cut an amazing stone:
a purple cubic Zirconia.

Faces of Perfection » (Japan).
Sakura finishes blossoming quite fast and flight of arrow is swift.
But beauty of flower is immortal, as well as power of flying arrow.
Power and Beauty are two faces of the single perfection.

The cut kunzite, sometimes called lithioamethyst, has a weight of 122.8 cts.The photo has been severely cropped.I estimate its diameter to be about 1 inch.
For example, an unknown stone, perhaps CZ. Diameter > 30 or 35 mm.
First, the shot, then the cropped stone.

Reflexion of the Great (Tibet).
The Great Mandala is shining in the small gemstone.
A small man is realizing the great teachings.
The tiny may contain the Grand, being de beginning, the end and the evolution itself…

Hello all FMF friends. Sorry for the late post but I'm just getting caught up on everything.
I know that this is a very tough time for many of us. However, in this time of self-isolation to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, we all need to do our part in keeping ourselves safe as well as others.
Therefore, to help the hours, days and weeks pass, we here at BlueCap Productions want to help out as much as possible.
To that end, we've released the entire program of What's Hot In Munich: 2019 onto YouTube for everyone to enjoy.
Please enjoy the show, spread the word and, most importantly, KEEP SAFE.
