I just thought share with you guys the experience I had at this show that I accidently stumbled upon. I just so happed drive by the convention center this morning and what caught my eye was an electric sign indicating Gem and Mineral show this weekend. I couldn't resist. I had to pull over to see what this was all about. This is the first show I have ever been to. It was four dollars admission so that was no problem. Upon entry I felt like a kid in a candy store. Tables upon tables full of goodies everything from jewlery too fosslis. I went table by table looking carefully at each specimen not knowing what I was about to get myself into. It took a while before I decided on the right specimens for my collection. I set myself up with a reasonable budget, but had to decide if I should buy one really nice mineral or several smaller pieces. I decided, since I am starting out, to aquire several smaller pieces. I chose a nice flourite from Crystal Victory Ill., two calcite specimens. One from Morocco, the other from Main, and a beautiful chunk of smoky Quartz from Mt. Ida Ark. I will post some pics as soon as I'm able to. Next show will be in April of next year. I can't wait

I was told that this was Calcite from Morocco. The dealer couldn't get any further details of this mineral. Does anyone know what sort of Calcite this is and a approx. location in Morocco. Thanks

I know these aren't particuarly unusual or unique, but I still find them fascinating. These specimens will primarily be used as my decorative pieces on my mantel. I would like to start developing a theme for my collection. Maybe gems and minerals from North Carolina and probably a seperate collection of minerals from Germany. I've always had a fascination with the European minerals.

Hi Derek,

These geodes (coconuts) of Calcite appear in some unspecified sedimentary area between Aouli and Mibladen (Midelt, Morocco).

You can see some more here -> https://www.mindat.org/photosearch.php?frm_id=mls&cform_is_valid=1&minname=calcite&cf_mls_page=1&region=midelt&sort=&submit_mls=Search
