Hi!

Please, could you provide the size and exact locality of each specimen? This is a must for every collector posting specimens pictures at FMF.

Many thanks for sharing,

When you don't know where the specimen came from I suggest you to write "Unknown locality" in the photo comments. Some other forum member might help. Please don't forget that size and locality, if known, are crucial data that must always be linked to every specimen photo.

Or still better, please don't publish them in this section and try to discover from where them are by yourself or requesting help publishing them in the section "What is it? - Where is it from?" and if you discover it, then publish them again in this section of "Collection Photos".

Basically, to publish specimens in this section is mandatory to provide species, locality and size, otherwise better to publish it (them) in the "What is it? - Where is it from?" section.

Please supply to Carles the sizes of the specimens you published without it, and Carles will add to them. About the specimens already published here and without locality, Carles will add the text mentioned by him "Unknown locality" but please in the future don't publish other specimens without the whole details (specimes, locality, size). Thank you!

Jordi

Just add a new message with the missing data and I will correct your posts for you.

I have no problem editing my photos down to those of known locality only. I was just unaware of this being a stipulation of posting in this section. I read the pinned topic at the top of this section and this was all I found on the subject.

One more thing, with each mineral, please add as much information as is possible: size (very important), provenance, related minerals, stories related with the specimen (if any)...the greater the information given, the better for everyone.

So if it is mandatory, I would suggest changing the wording a bit to reflect this rule so as to avoid having to repeat this in the future.

Hi!

I think this is just a matter of common sense.

A mineral photo without locality has very little interest unless the specimen shows a habit that is characteristic of some known deposit in a way that any educated collector can recognize it. Yet even in this case it is highly advisable to publish the locality.

And about the size, a picture on your computer screen, as you know, does not give any idea on the real dimensions of the specimen you are looking at, so it is always indispensable to provide that info. Here and, I believe, everywhere. The only exceptions might be the photos taken at a show or a museum, where it is difficult or impossible to measure the specimen.

Thank you for the suggestion Llamabox.

I believe it is more or less explained:

"...To know more about it, please use this link" ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=390 ) and following this link you can read:

"please add as much information as is possible: size (very important), provenance, related minerals, stories related with the specimen (if any)...the greater the information given, the better for everyone"

Sorry don't display it clearly on the descriptive texts, but the whole description would be too long to be in a regular descriptive text.

Again, thank you to share your minerals with us as well as for your comprehension.

Jordi
