Hello all,

this is not fully mineral related but as it relates to one member of this forum I thought I would post it.

On February 22nd at the Annual SME dinner in Seatle, Dr. Peter K. M. Megaw was officially presented with the Robert M. Dreyer Award. The Robert M. Dreyer Award in Applied Economic Geology, recognizes outstanding achievements in applied economic geology accomplished through commercial exploration or development of metalliferous and/or non-metalliferous mineral deposits.

This is a big award for any geologist out there. It really features those that make mineral discoveries

Peter Congratulations for this official announcement of what many of us have known for some time. You are an accomplished explorationist and geologist, and a member of an elite group of those who have discovered significant new mineral deposits.

For forum members, note that this is a significant award. I tried to copy the citation for Peter's award from the SME (Society of Mining Engineers) website without success. For those interested, it is in the February, 2012 issue of Mining Engineering magazine, and lists several areas in Mexico where Peter and his team have made major discoveries. His other significant achievements, which many of us are aware of, are also described.

The Society website lists the following:

"The Robert M. Dreyer Award in Applied Economic Geology, established as an annual Award in 1999, recognizes outstanding achievements in applied economic geology. The outstanding achievements so recognized must have been accomplished through commercial exploration or development of metalliferous and/or nonmetalliferous mineral deposits.

Eligibility: The recipient must have contributed significantly to applied economic geology through discovery of a major mineral deposit, substantial expansion of an identified deposit, outstanding delineation and estimation of resources and reserves, scientific studies that led to discoveries, or successful technical management of these activities."

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Kind of wierd to think about the implications of getting a lifetime achievement award though!

Looking forward to at least one of these discoveries leading to some good minerals. So far only a few proustites from Platosa...and arsenates on the surface at Cinco
