Allison and I had a nice treat last week (actually we had several including spending a delightful weekend with Peter, Nadia and David Lyckberg in Luxembourg. Congrats to David, he got into the auto-design college he most wanted to go to!)... we got to spend a few hours at the Unviersity of Copenhagen Geological and Mineralogical Museum. I had not been there since before becoming a serious collector and was pleased that my feeble recollections of them having nice things were real. I will post more later, but let me start with the Kongsbergs! Denmark ruled Kongsberg during much of the time the mines were in major production, so they've got some real killers. The best are in a single exhibit case (see below) but others are sprinkled throughout the cases in the systematic collection. Yes folks, there are still a few real systematic collections left in the world's museums and they told me that this one will be reconstructed almost verbatim in their new facility! Good on 'em if they pull this off.
Enough ranting...here are some serious silvers. i saved the best for last

I visited the museum on Friday - very quickly as I had to head to a meeting - but can add a few more photos of non-silver specimens from areas that interest me.
Sorry about the reflections but it is very hard to avoid some. As usual with specimens behind glass the dimensions are estimates. I have also added information on localities when I think I know a bit more than the label says

Hello Peter,
Thank you for the great pictures. My wife and I were in Copenhagen last August and were on our way to the Matisse Exhibit at the National Gallery and stumbled upon this museum about 15 minutes after closing time. It closes in the early afternoon.
Regards,
Don

Hello,
the Kopenhagen museum is definitely worth visiting. An excellent range of old classics in an "olde-worlde" atmosphere. Not only for those who love Kongsberg silver...
Regards,
Andreas
