Hello Pierre, very nice specimens and photo's as usual! I really like the Brandburg amythest and smoky quartz crystals, they have fascinating internal structure and colour, and superb lustre.

Hi Pierre - Nice Vredendal adularia specimens! I agree with Jordi that your 'kornerupine' looks like sanidine, on the basis of colour, lustre and cleavage. I have several similar gemmy specimens (formerly described as orthoclase) from Madagascar. Duncan

Hi Jordi. Thank you! Will you please change the label? What is the difference between Sandine and Moonstone?

Hi Joan. Thank you for your comment. This specimen is close to my heart as it is a large and complex specimen that came from the back of a deep pocket.

Very nice additions to your collection Pierre and Riana, and really good photo's too. Thanks for showing them.

Q. What kind of rock does the Vredendal Lime Quarry extract? Presumably it's for the production of cement mortar, or even lime mortar?

Thanks, Mike.

Hi Mike, I am not sure what minerals are mined there. I think the main products are dolomite and feldspar. Perhaps Duncan can tell us more. The only access to the mine, for mineral collectors, is through a mineral club and that only once or twice a year.

The Vredendal quarry extracts dolomite, presumably for agricultural application. Here is the link to an article describing it in more detail.

Thank you Duncan and Pierre, I read the article; looks like the quarry is for dolomite then, for the purpose of making refractory 'bricks' - presumably for lining furnaces and probably for the steel industry.
The by-products of the quarry are rather more interesting!

Thanks again, Mike

Remarkable specimen Pierre!
Just one question - Would it be possible to raise the Mb on the camera so we can zoom in on your specimens? The photo's are excellent and clear and would be great to zoom in on.

Regards,

Mike :-)

Remarkable specimen Pierre!
Just one question - Would it be possible to raise the Mb on the camera so we can zoom in on your specimens? The photo's are excellent and clear and would be great to zoom in on.

Regards,

Mike :-)

We have a limit on our data. What size would you suggest?

Thank you very much for your ckind comment Dr Don:-)
