PostPosted: Sep 08, 2013 15:54    Post subject: Chessy and chessylite, an old name of azurite

Hi List,
Chessy-les-Mines (Rhone), is a classic locality of azurite in France. It is very famous because it was described by former great crystallographers like Alfred Lacroix, Giuseppe Cesàro, Albrecht Schrauf...
Here is a less conventional crystal habit than what one usually sees in this site.
Spherical subparallel aggregates are common. Chessylite (azurite) can be characterized by numerous secondary forms.
The process of metamorphosis in malachite is underway. It is initiated from the matrix and it remains a nice little thickness of azurite.
There is also cuprite and pretty pseudomorphs of malachite after cuprite. This pic shows such a pseudomorph with also a growth of two crystals with parallel axes.
Roger.
