Hello,
I will present here. from time to time, my minerals (those that can be shown).
Some are nice (almost all to me), others are not so; and the pictures could really be better.
So now let's go. For my first attempt.
Mineral: | Hematite |
Locality: | Brézouard, Les Vosges Massif, Lapoutroie, Ribeauvillé, Haut-Rhin, Grand Est, France | |
|
Dimensions: | 85mm |
Description: |
The largest crystal is 10 mm wide. The crack you see seems to be recrystallized. There is no crack on the matrix. |

Hi,
Fine specimens, but I enjoyed hematite from Lapoutroie, a locality where you eat well. It’s a specimen that I did not know.
Is it an old specimen?
Roger.

Thank you Roger
I bought this specimen one month ago from a French internet dealer. I do not have any information about when it was collected, but I suppose that it is from a previous collection.
Although, I know that some collectors visit the now closed iron mines of the Vosges and find nice specimens, from time to time.

Philippe Durand wrote: | It is sad that Dal'negorsk minerals are now so scarce on the market | In my experience, they are not that scarce. Sure, they are not omnipresent, but it depends on what you are searching for. I don't collect rare species or uncommon paragenesises (is that a correct plural form? ;-)), only "common" stuff like fluorite, galena, quartz or calcite. And (at least on the German market) there are always some nice Dal'negorsk specimens of that species in each price range to find. But you're also right that they are becoming more scarce than in the past. And if one doesn't collect the really common things (fluorite, galena, quartz, calcite) but some rarer species from Dal'negorsk (e.g. datolite, pyrrhotite and other sulfides, andradite, axinite, ilvaite etc.) there's not an excessive supply on the market.
But I can't complain, these are my three current Dalnegorsk specimens, and all of them were purchased during the last years:

Concerning your Navajún pyrite above I think the main crystal cannot be 20mm wide given the size of the specimen. Either the cristal is bigger or the whole specimen must be smaller.

I think you are right. I had theese dimensions in my database.
But after checking both are wrong : 150mm is the max dimension of the specimen, and 30mm the max crystal.
How can I correct that ?

Thank you Chris, but in fact, it seems that if it is not the last message it is impossible for me.
It seems that Carles did the change.

Philippe
Just ask an administrator, such as Carles, and we can make changes to old posts.

Right, but only when the last post is yours (unless you are a moderator or administrator). As soon as another message is added, the Edit button is not there anymore.
