PostPosted: Mar 21, 2017 06:57    Post subject: Locality for this gypsum specimen?

Can anyone suggest a locality for this specimen? It came from a seller in England, and was mislabeled as calcite, but it is definitely gypsum. The specimen is 13 cm across. The crystals have a light Fe-oxide coating but are internally colorless and transparent. The knobby orange material seen here in the center of the larger crystal is actually a bumpy surface on the bottom of the specimen (as seen through the clean "window" of the small crystal face on the top side).

If from Europe, my best guess for the locality (based on Mindat) is the Algezares quarry, Segorbe, Castellón. Specimen photos show many large and sometimes rusty crystals similar to these. https://www.mindat.org/loc-108439.html

It's not a great specimen, but maybe nice enough to keep. I'm curious to know where it might have come from.

Thanks for any suggestions!
