Just my small collection. Sold all the rest and started over about 2 years ago - just recently getting serious again. (Thanks Don, Joe and Al!)

Here is a Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico pyrite-galena-sphalerite-calcite piece that is a work of art!!!

The specimen is about 5 cm across.

Hi Darren!

Nice combo specimen!

Your collection, although small, will be very welcome if you decide to keep posting.

Please, could you provide the size of the pyrite-galena-sphalerite-calcite?

Thanks,

Hi Darren,

i you want some more information about the localities of you Peruvian specimens: The sphalerite with quartz is from the Huaron Mining District in Departamento de Pasco -> https://www.mindat.org/loc-28521.html , and the pyrite comes from the Huanzala Mine in Departamento de Huánuco -> https://www.mindat.org/loc-5783.html Both mining areas are in the center of Peru.

Hi Tobias!

Thanks, I've looked there. Just wanted opinions on whether the pieces looked "right" for the location. I'm always a bit skeptical (curious?) when a label is as broad as "Huaron, Peru." Again, thanks for the quick feedback!

Darren,

The Pyrite looks to me as from Huanzala Mine, Huallanca, Dos de Mayo, Huánuco, Peru. I added two pics of another specimen from the same mine.

About the other Peruvian specimen, it could be from the Animon Mine, Huaron, Cerro de Pasco, Pasco, Peru, but I can't be sure, as several mines from Peru supply similar kind of stuff. Is some minor Chalcopyrite crystal with this specimen?

Jordi-

Thanks for the information on the Peruvian pieces I had posted. If I remember, the person I bought the second one from (both of those were 3 dollar pieces) may have mentioned Alimon.

Finally get to add a few more! I really need to bring home my better pieces at work and photograph them, but here are a few that I recently got. Not the best stuff in the world, or best photos, but I like them! The Baryte is a lot bigger than I usually collect, but Baryte is my favorite, so I got it!

PostPosted: Mar 14, 2011 22:43    Post subject: Re: Darren Court collection

Well, we visited Deming, New Mexico on Sunday for the annual Rockhound Roundup and had a blast. Many of the dealers, by the way, made comments about having "Tucson prices" on their minerals still and we could take off up to half - hmmmmm. There are always fantastic New Mexico and Arizona minerals to be found, but Mexican minerals (and lapidary stuff, if you are into that) is really what this show is about. Caitlyn was able to add some odds and ends to her collection, including an Uruguayan amethyst and two very nice single 2 inch amethyst crystals from Amatitlan, Mexico. She also bought a Sparta, Illinois pyrite dollar (as we all did - $5 each was a bargain!) Dylan added a nice light green Chinese fluorite and a limpid green fluorite from Naica (out of a flat of Naica fluorite I bought - more later). He also added the Sparta pyrite, a pyrite "ball" from China, a thumbnail Navajun pyrite in matrix, and a small cube from "somewhere" - in addition to a few other small things.I was able to pick up a half flat of stunning clear discoidal calcites (to 2 cm) on matrix from the Ojuela Mine, Mexico, an 8 inch hemimorphite/mimetite combo from Ojuela, a nice Abasolo Mine (Rodeo) small cab. Creedite, 5 thumbnail groups of Amatitlan amethyst, a great celadonite-included Heulandite group from India, as well as a 10 inch apophyllite/stilbite group from there as well, a nice 3 inch Naica, Mexico anhydrite, and a 3 inch Tetrahedrite and Quartz on Rhodochrosite from Huaron, Peru. Did better there than in Tucson!!! Oh and the Naica Fluorite flat - I checked them out well before buying them - they were dusty but not oiled. Got them home and went to wash the dust off, and some of them fell apart, seems the matrix was some kind of carbon rich, crumbly rock, oh well - lesson learned!!! Still ended up with a dozen nice pieces! I posted this on Mindat as well, and will try to get photos up later.
