Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a year now, but decided it is time to come out. I share a fluorescent mineral collection with my daughter, Jessica. I also help and encourage her in any way I can with her own collection. I love field collecting and do it at every opportunity. I just wish we had more to collect in the mid-Atlantic states than we do. We we do have is on private property and usually difficult or costly to access (unless someone can point me to places I don't know). I'd love to collect in CA, AZ, ... almost anywhere actually :-)

We have collected in Franklin NJ, Sterling Hil NJ, Loudville, MA, New Hampshire (pegmatites), multiple places in virginia, National Limestone in Pennsylvania, Hunting Hill and Mineral Hill in Maryland MD. I also collected for just over a week in Narsaq, Greenland and the surrounding areas.That was FUN!

Well hope to meet some of you - the discussions have been interesting!

Here is a calcite on natrolite from MSH from our collection. It is probably my favorite non-Greenland fluoro specimen.

If you collect in New Jersey I wanted to mention a certain stone indigenous there that I'm familiar with.

Bearfort Mountain. Boonton, Rockaway Township puddingstone, is a purple puddingstone found in northern New Jersey. Geologically, it is formed of Paleozoic sandstone and quartz conglomerate. The puddingstone Schunemunk conglomerate is studded with pebbles of pink sandstone and white quartz.

I'm out in California and looking forward to finding a spot I can collect some interesting samples myself.

Bob, I derailed your thread too, so another apology is in order.

Next time you find yourself near northern NJ let me know. Maybe we can all go collecting together...I live 35 minutes SW of Franklin, if it helps. Would love to visit the museum with someone who knows their fluorescents! :-)

Bob, I do hope that was OK that I used your photo in a powerpoint presentation here--I used it as one of the illustrations of Mont St-Hilaire minerals in a talk (as I guess you heard) about the mineralogy of alkaline rocks and alkaline pegmatites, to a micromount group here in Denver. (I did display a credit line with your name & the Mineral Forum where it was posted.) As I said, that fluorescent calcite with natrolite really looked great!

I'll be taking off for Tucson in a couple more days.
