PostPosted: Sep 13, 2012 08:32    Post subject: Re: The collection of Pierre and Riana Joubert

I was given this ruby some years ago, together with 2 emeralds by an elderly lady. The origin of this specimen is unknown, but I suspect it came from Zim or higher up in Africa. I have parted with the emeralds long ago; a pity as they probably came from the same area and could have aided in identifying the place of origin .

Thanks Pierre. I already changed just to "Topaz" in order to display it better (alphabetically organized) in your display in Gallery FMF

PostPosted: Nov 04, 2012 06:24    Post subject: Re: The collection of Pierre and Riana Joubert

We, up until fairly recently, never had a personal collection, just boxes and boxes of specimens. Through this forum, we saw the need for a personal collection and have started taking out all the better specimens and placing them in our 'private' collection. We have a large collection of fine Van Rhynsdorp (Western Cape, SA) specimens, some of which will eventually also end up featuring in this collection. We hope you enjoy viewing the photos.

Thanks Michael. Indeed, it is a most unusual (once off) specimen. The chance of finding something similar is very slim. Regards.

I've always been a sucker for a really good hoppered crystal, your quartz with hematite is very unique and very nice.

Thanks Nurbo,Tracy and Joseph. We often buy lots of Brandberg crystals straight from the source and when we unpack, sometimes get pleasant surprises like this one P1040106.JPG.

George, I will answer you on the 'I am curious to know what camera you are using'.

Beste wense :-)

A most bizarre little specimen! Clear calcite has overgrown, what appears to be, upside down calcite crystals, overcoated by some unknown mineral.

I have placed this little Rhodo specimen before, but I wish to correct the description: It is Shigaite crystals on Rhodochrosite.
