PostPosted: Dec 15, 2009 12:29    Post subject: Spindle Stage

Recently I had come across several papers with instructions on how to build and use this accessory for single crystal / grain mineral identification under the petrographic microscope.
In most of the articles a software program (EXCALIBR) is mentioned, the papers suggest it is on the public domain thus being free of charge. However, searching through Internet to download the program, guided me into no longer working links. I wonder if somebody has knowledge of a site where this program is still available and/or have a copy, which is willing to share?

Best regards.

José Luis.

Hi Jose

EXCAILBR is indeed the program to use for spindle stage data. I suggest that you contact Mickey Gunter at the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho to request a copy. Mickey is one of the authors of the program.

I can also send you a copy of the program. I also wrote detailed instructions on how to mount samples, collect and enter data, and iinterpret EXCALIBR output. None of this are intuitive from Don Bloss' book. I'll be happy to share any of these with you.

I am a huge believer in optical techniques, especially spindle stage. Let me know how I can help.

Cheers
