The best detector for your needs is a Gold Bug 2 with the 6.5 inch coil. That's by far your best option. If you want excellent results, you need to get the best.

I think if you were to use a metal detector like a Fisher Gold Bug with a 6.5" coil, you would find a lot more specimens. There's probably a lot you can't see that a metal detector would pick up ...

Better yet, just keep it as a specimen. Hard to see how much gold is in it though. There are formulas one can use to get a rough idea of the gold content without destroying the specimen.

I would be very careful about how you pack your specimens if you ever decide to check the bags in. You have no idea how baggage is treated once it leaves your sight, esp heavy baggage. So beware.

Can someone provide pictures of the saw used to cut these geodes? I have never seen such huge geodes, much less seeing how they are cut.
