The A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum is a Keweenaw Heritage Site associated with the Keweenaw National Historical Park. The new sign was just installed this week!

Lots happened in the museum on June 14 and 15! Many of the "floor cases", designed by former curator Jean Kemp, and prominently displaying the collection in the EERC building since the mid 1970s, were places into position forming spaces for the "Keweenaw Gallery" and the "Iron District Gallery" for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan minerals.

Progress was also made on laying the brickwork on the outbuilding.

I said it several times before, but again, thanks so much John to give us the gift to follow the rebuilding, starting from zero, of one of the world's best Museums. A really exciting experience and a great pleasure.

Work has progressed rapidly on the storage building. We're pleased because we need to move things into it to make room for the rest of the display cases to be installed inside the gallery.

Of course, it would have been nice for them to put the name of the museum in the headline. Maybe an interview with someone other than the architect as well...

Progress on the outbuilding continues quickly! Today it was pretty much covered and the roof was being installed.

In the short term, miscellaneous boxes, packing materials and furniture will be stored there to give room for the rest of the exhibit cases to be installed in the gallery. In the longer term there may be work space for specimen preparation, continued storage for packing materials, exhibit design materials and work space, etc.

Pat Reagan designed and built this amazing gift shop counter, complete with a really interesting Brazilian conglomerate.

The gift shop is scheduled to open on July 5.

I'll bet you'd like to see some minerals again...

George & Susan Robinson worked over the weekend installing the Beauty of Minerals gallery near the main gallery entrance. Wow!

A few of the specimens are still in secure storage and well be returned to exhibit soon.
