PostPosted: Nov 25, 2008 20:06    Post subject: hematite specimen matrix, Bad Lauterberg, Harz, Germany

I purchased from a dealer at the last Munich show a hematite specimen from Germany
labeled as follows. I am looking for the meaning of "knollgrube",
the matrix of this piece, a light pink to reddish massive group of crude crystals.
The hematite is black and botyoidal as expressed in the description "Glaskopf".

"Hamatit (var. Roter Glaskopf)
x obere Knollgrube
Bad Lauterberg, Harz"

Thanks

The Knollengrube ist just the name of the mine,
where "knollen" has a lot of meanings like "horses" or "ball"

cheers!

Hello str4hler,

Thank you for the information. I did not realize that term referred to the
name of a mine.

By the way I wonder if we met, if only briefly, in front of the
money machine at the last Munich Show. If so cannot find
the business card you gave me but you mentioned
a manganese mineral you collected at a mine in Spain and that
you might have a sample. Do you recall what it was?
We also may have talked of my interest in Michigan's
nodular datolite. I could send you examples and literature references
regarding our datolite if that interests you.

Thanks
