I have finally got round to thinking about posting some images of special minerals in my collection. It comprises a few thousand catalogued specimens, many of which are micro-mineral specimens, and made up of specimens collected in the field, traded with other collectors around the world, or purchased at shows or online.

Here is the first. I will add more as I get time. It could take a while!

Chlorargyrite (bromian), originally known as embolite, is uncommon as distinct crystals. It is more regularly blobs or masses and often a purplish-grey due to exposure to light. This one is an old specimen from Broken Hill, dating back at least 60 years, and has retained it's typically fresh green colour. Originally in the Margaret Brown Collection, and prior to that, Col. Light Collection.

I am interested in the history associated with mineral specimens and have recently acquired a few vintage micros. This is one. Ex Paul Desautels, ex Delbert. L. Oswald, ex Larry Piekenbrock. It also has eye appeal.

Rule number 1 - don't post specimens without crystals. Partially broken rule with this one Jordi. Sorry.

This specimen is from the Red Lead Mine, Dundas, Tasmania, and of course has crocoite crystals. Unusually for this mine, yellow ("chrome") cerussite is also present. But that is not why this specimen is in my collection. At the top left of the photo is a pale purple-grey area, adjacent to a small relict bit of galena. This is the rare mineral, petterdite. The Red Lead Mine is the type locality.

Two rare nickel species on the one specimen, kambaldaite and widgiemoolthalite, from the 132 North Mine, Widgiemooltha, Western Australia. It is the type and only locality for widgiemoolthalite and only the second known occurrence of kambaldaite. The kambaldaite forms deep green hexagonal prisms.

Yesterday (Australia Day here in Australia), my wife and I visited an antiques and collectables fair held annually at Fryerstown, Victoria. The Duke of Cornwall Mine is on the road in from Chewton to Fryerstown, and I had been there in the very early 1990s and collected a specimen of gold in quartz from the dumps. I had forgotten about the Cornish Engine House on the other side of the road. A superb example and quite rare in Victoria. The gold specimen shown below was the subject of an early trimming incident. I lost about 90% of the gold in my (then) back garden.
