I have some galena that I'd like to melt and separate the lead from the silver like the old miners would have done (but with much less ore). Is there a correct way to effectively do this with just a cast iron pot and some heat?

It is not so simple. Galena is a sulfide. We must begin by “grilling” with oxygen and reduce the oxide obtained with coke (C), at 900 °C.
