Laura and I recently had an opportunity to visit the Perot Museum in Dallas. The building itself is very impressive and was conceived by award-winning California architect Thom Mayne. It's design allows for the incorporation of many sustainable strategies including a rainwater collection system that meets 75% of the non-potable water needs and 100% of the irrigation needs. LED lighting, off-grid energy generation, and solar water heating contribute to make the building very environmentally friendly.
The museum features many interactive displays and really seemed to capture the interest of the many visitors, including lots of school children. The mineral specimens, most of which are on loan from private collections are wonderfully displayed. The photos shown are a few of the cases that caught my eye, and the measurements are obviously approximated.

Gail,
We are looking forward to another visit to the museum. We only had one afternoon and concentrated on the 3 floor. There is so much more to see.
