Yesterday was a day at the Main Show. It's a class reunion of calcite-fluorite and galena representing very well this year theme, Minerals of the Midwest. A lot to see and post later.
For now, two specimens that really got my attention in the MAD case

Mineral:
Calcite
Locality:
Zacatecas, Mexico
Dimensions:
Large Miniarure
Description:
Stunning calcite from Zacatecas. Without my glasses, I thought it was a garnet from the Jeffrey mine in Quebec. Just an amazing little piece.
In my book, very strong contender for the Romero Trophy.

I think the case entered by Irv Brown was certainly among the best cases ever seen at the Main Show. Truly incredible pieces. Here's some photos and a link to a Youtube video.

Thanks for those impressions, Bob. Irv's collection is among the best of the best of the best of the mineral world, I'm speechless when I see that world-class beauties, wow!
And thanks for the Youtube link, that channel also features a clip of the one specimen that is even better than what Irv has in his case the - the Alma Rose

Thanks Tobi - there are good photos of the Alma Rose earlier in this thread.
AND
something else totally unique - at least to me - I think this is a gemmy tetrahedrite(??) - and priced accordingly. has anyone else seen gemmy tetrahedrite??
there's a few other real standouts that i'll try to post later.

No, I've never seen gemmy tetrahedrite and I don't believe it exists. I think the specimen above is "just" very lustrous, but not really gemmy which would mean it is transparent. Nevertheless a breathtaking sample of that great sulfide!

Indeed very odd but not impossible at all if it was extremely pure and not tetrahedrite but rather tennantite. Same with rutile, cassiterite and sphalerite, which can look like colorless and transparent quartz when absolutely pure.

I took so many Tucson photos and didn't even cover half of the awesome specimens there, but since I have a bit of an obsession with calcites, I will include my favorites here.

Interesting. I know of several sulfide minerals (e.g. sphalerite, proustite) that they can be translucent or even transparent/gemmy, but didn't know that about tetrahedrite. Nevertheless, I don't think that certain tetrahedrite crystal above is gemmy, it rather looks like it's reflecting the white quartz crystals on the specimen and the gold specimen in front of it. But gemmy? Bob, maybe a simple request to Ian or Diana of CrystalClassics would help unraveling that mystery ;-)

I will contact them about this - I also first thought that this was a reflection but in my experience tetrahedrite is more silver and would reflect without color - but there's color showing here(??) their booth was a bit busy when I visited and took this photo so I didn't ask then. will let you all know.

I'm excited to get the information :-)
But concerning the reflection: Of course you're right, tetrahedrite has a silver colour, not a golden one. But there's a large and shiny specimen of massive gold standing in front of it - why should the mirror image of the gold not reflect its colour? ;-)
