I will be traveling the coast of Norway - stops in several ports and travels around - in a few weeks. Are there particular Museums or Displays that I should try to visit? I have some on list but would like to hear from anyone who has visited and has rercommendations. I'll post pictures on return. |

One of the worlds most unique mineral museums is the Norwegian Mining Museum in Kongsberg, which I would highly recommend. |

Sadly, the splendid [!] collection of the Oslo Geological Museum is closed while under reconstruction - only a small part of the collection is open in the adjoining Natural History Museum - but if in Oslo, don't even miss that small but better set of minerals! There is a museum in Evje in Telemark and a very nice private museum in Lom run by my friend Torgeir Garmo - admission is free. Smaller mineral museums dot the country. If you are collecting on your trip, Norway is a collector's delight if you know where to look. |
