I know Alain by the remarkable description of precision of the various twins he made. It is a real pleasure to read his articles on this frequently presented subject.
Alain reviews the various types of twins encountered in mineralogy while allowing us to find an answer to certain questions, such as the consequences of the existence of a multiple cell. Thus, we learn that the Quartz Japan twin (or of La Gardette) has a tetragonal pseudosymmetry by its multiple cell.
He is certainly a disciple of Georges Friedel from Strasbourg (the pope of twins around 1900).
Since Alain loves garnets, I show him a photo of spessartine microcrystals included in the Vielsalm coticule (the famous Belgian Whetstone). This rock was used to sharpen scalpels. No artificial imitation could match it because it could not remove waste.
These garnets have a size of 5 to 20 µm.
Such a photo of the coticule had not been taken.

Hello everyone, I just signed up. For weeks I've been following the forum that immediately appeared interesting to me so I signed up. I have been collecting minerals since the age of 10 and still do it, when I can I look for minerals from myself, since here in Sicily, apart from sulfur, calcite, aragonite, gypsum, celestine not much is known but there is more both in terms of minerals and locations, greetings ..

Hi everybody
I dont know what is the right way to introduce myself, but as a newby I wanted to share some details about my experience and my fields of interest.
I started my profesional experience long ago as a geologist by studying hydrothermal systems and their coeval economic resources, mostly with perigranitic ores, then with rare metals and carbonatites.
Then, I turned to study fluid-rock systems in basinal environments (i.e. diagenesis) spending some time to work on the CO2 underground storage projects in westen Europe.
Finally, I turned to even more applied research in industrial crystallisation (chemical engineering) where my geologist's experience was very welcomed.
Now retired, I would like to turn again to my main field of interest, i.e. petrology, either igneous, sedimentary and/or hydrothermal, with a special interest on skarns.
I do live near the Estern Pyrenean area, where aluminous granites, pegmatites and skarns are quite common, on either side of the border. Hope we could share some ideas, field work, and interesting questions.

Welcome Daniel. Last time I was in your area was working on the TGV from Spain into France. But I collected no specimens, sadly.
