Thanks Tobi! This piece looks so much better in hand than the photo conveys.

Superb photos, and I especially love the close-up shots. Not many people bother to take close-ups, but often they reveal so much detail about how the mineral was formed.

What a jewel! And I mean the crystals, not the cut stone ;-)
A highly aesthetic specimen with the best red colour you will find in the mineral world. No wonder that pieces like that from South Africa are among the most desired minerals!
(And a superb photo btw.)

Thanks Tobi and Dany! I have always wondered just how large the rough had to be to get a gemstone this large .....

I have always wondered just how large the rough had to be to get a gemstone this large ..... | In my humble opinion for sure TOO large to break and cut it :-/ But who knows, maybe it was an already broken or somehow damaged crystal, would be a sad thought for me if someone took a good specimen like the one on the first photo to make a gem out of it ...
Nonetheless a great craftsmanship to do this with a rhodochrosite, I think the crystals are more fragile than classic gemstones like diamond, beryl, corundum or topaz.
