A really lovely Panasqueira specimen - and superb photos. Again, great close-ups - and I do love the close-up shots.
You do know I have a passion for Panasqueira specimens so my opinion will always be biased.

Thanks Silvia, Yes, I was thinking of you when I posted that specimen.
Beautiful little Cassiterite BTW.

Many thanks for your support – but the specimen will only be on display about my neck.
We have a few more Panasqueira minerals to post, but we just could not get any good photos of them with the old Nikon Cool Pix A100. The Cassiterite was one of the specimens that we put to one side until we could take a photo that did it justice. We have another, Arsenopyrite/Marcasite/Pyrite that just would not photograph well – akin to taking a photo of a mirror. Our new Canon camera allows us to photograph some very challenging specimens. Photos of these will be posted in the coming weeks.

What a beautiful Pyromorphite from France. Not easy to fine good ones. The color is more orange in the photo than actually ? I've seen specimens that are "more" green.

Dany, thank you for your comment.
Actually, the color of this pyromorphite is quite accurate, at least on my monitor. There is quite a bit of variation in the color of pyromorphite specimens from this location. I have another piece that is apple green. One of the reasons I acquired this piece was because of the difference in color.

When I acquired this specimen at the recent Denver Show it was labelled as Hematite pseudo after Magnetite. Although 'martite' does occur at this locality, I decided to do a simple streak test today. I tested several areas of the specimen and the streak was uniformly grey-black, so there is no hematite, just pure magnetite.

I am not a species collector per se, but I decided to add this specimen to the collection for several reasons. (1) It was collected by someone that I knew and admired, (2) it was from the Type Locality, and (3) it is an uncommon mineral that I had never heard of, so it represented an opportunity to learn about it and the location it came from.
Schoderite is a hydrous aluminum phosphovanadate named for William P. Schoder, a longtime research chemist with Union Carbide Nuclear Company, for his outstanding contributions to the metallurgy of vanadium. Although the VanNavSan Claim is the Type Locality, Schoderite probably reaches it best development at the Union Carbide Mine, in Wilson Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, where it forms attractive, bladed microcrystals. I will be on the lookout for one of these :>)

Yellow-orange microcrystals of schoderite covering the top surface of a friable light brown matrix. Collected from the Type Locality by David Shannon, July 1995. |

Wonderful Morenci specimen! I'm not that much into azurite as many other collectors but I like these specimens from Morenci with the colourful contrast of blue on green. The only azurite specimen in my collection is also one from Morenci ;-)
Very nice, Michael!

Thanks Tobi,
Each of the other Morenci specimens in the collection are quite different. The other specimens are either azurite or malachite alone, so I was happy to acquire this combination specimen.
