Here I begin an Italian minerals sub-collection.

I was lucky enough to visit one month ago a place in Tuscany where to take a good wine while talking about minerals, the family and the life with our FMF fellow Sante Celiberti.
It was a fantastic experience to know part of the extensive collection of Sante.

Grazie mille Sante.
-------------------------

Pyrite from Gavorrano Mine, Gavorrano, Grosseto Province, Tuscany, Italy. Nº-248.

Gavorrano was, with its old pyrite mines, one of the most important mining centers in Europe. From 1910 its mines were owned by the Montecatini Company.
These metalliferous hills were the largest pyrite mine in Europe.
The mining industry, which began at the end of the 19th century and lasted until 1981, left its mark on the landscape, environment and society.
