This is an older specimen, It came with a dealer label which says " Orthoclase var. Paradoxite, South West Africa ( penciled in is with phenacite' ) The dealer died in 1951. Any ideas about the locality?

Hi Howard!
If the clear crystals are indeed phenakite, this specimen could from the Stiepelmann Mine near Kleine Spitzkoppe Mountain.

Hi Howard,

You indicated the dealer died in 1951 - who was the dealer. This might provide an important clue. Mindat lists "paradoxite' as a German synonym for Orthoclase. Was the dealer German?

There is a photo on Mindat of a specimen from the Stiepelmann Mine that looks very similar to yours, so Tobi could be right about the locality.

Michael
