Hi Tobias,
Quote: | And we finally have to decide whether the home country counts or not. |
Why should home country not being counted ? Roger has his reasons to consider Germany as his top country. No problem for me (France is only third on my list). As for Andreas, why should we ignore a systematic collector just because he focuses on one country ?
I agree with you about the count. Counting each answer no matter the number (from 1 to 10). My guess for Joan answer :
Nothern England = UK = 1
California = USA = 1
Afghanistan = 1
Pakistan = 1
Russia = 1
Burma = 1
Between 1 and 10 = ok. Other ideas of counting ?
Cheers

Hi Chris, not to count the home country wasn't my idea (see beginning of this thread) and i'm also against that procedure. |

1. Pakistan
2. Afghanistan
3. Brazil
4. China
5. USA ( Arizona, California, Colorado, Tennessee )
6. Nambia
7. Morocco
8. Mexico
9. Germany
10. France
I don't collect countries, but the minerals I am attracted to seem to come from these places. My collection's origins seem to be heavily represented by these countries and states.

OK it seems that, considering the different opinions, it could be better let the thread open and let its own development. So, Tobias, Montanpark, if you consider necessary my intervention in this thread just let me know. Otherwise I will be aside, letting the thread continue as the FMF's members decide.
Considering the circumstances I edited my own post -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=12822#12822 and I added Spain, Namibia and South Africa. _________________ Audaces fortuna iuvat |

Back from my summar vacation so let me add some thoughts. I used to collect anything I liked regardless of the country they were from but have now decided to collect only minerals from
Spain
England
Portugal
Scotland
Wales
No real order there but items from the first two are easier to obtain than material from the last two countries. Everything from any other country is now slowly being exchanged or removed from my collection

When you have decades of collections, interest in a region changes over time. This is because mineralogy is a function of the economic or geopolitical activity of the moment.
When I was young, the Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) was generous to us Belgians.
Then there was also Switzerland, France, Germany, Morocco and the legendary Brazil and Madagascar.
Then came the USA (Pala, Elmwood).
Asia appeared thanks to the war in Afghanistan.
Then Pakistan, India and finally China, extraordinary.
More recently, Central Africa.
There are two important drivers of discovery: industry and gemstone hunting.
In fact, the collection brings together the various eras that punctuate history. |

Hello everyone,
I don't really have a favorite country to collect from. However, most of my most treasured minerals are from the USA. Next would be China (calcite & fluorite) and then Mexico (azurite). I don't have any tanzanite or spectacular crocoite, but I do very much appreciate these minerals.
1. USA 2. China 3. Mexico 4. Tanzania 5. Australia |
