Expounding on John Medici's previous postings of Dugway Utah quartz geodes, this is my 2015 Cincinnati Mineral Show display case of these. Other than quartz, not much in the way of secondary minerals is found in these geodes.

Fantastic display Bob! The agate looks to me like blue lace agate. Is there a similarity?

Thanks for your kind words Pierre !
As to any similarity to blue lace agate, I think it only coincidentally similar in color and banding forms. None of the natural blue lace agate that I am familiar with (and it is not much!) comes from Dugway in Utah.....that is, unless someone who knows more than I has different thoughts. BOB

Acquired at the just ended 2016 Denver show along with a couple of additional examples, these celestine and calcite geodes come from Emery County Utah. There was a recent article on mining them by Daniel E Kile et al in Rocks & Minerals vol 90 #4 (July- August 2015). I acquired them from the booth of one of the miners.
Mineral: | Celestine and Calcite |
Locality: | San Rafael District, Emery County, Utah, USA | |
|
Dimensions: | The largest Celestine crystals are 0.9 cm |
Description: |
see the Rocks & Minerals article as noted above. There are many pix of the mining site and additional examples of specimens mined there. |
