Thank you!

Hi friend Joan, thank you! The specimens have been in the acid for a few days and I hope to clean them soon and show a few. This pocket yielded fascinating specimens and I am really excited to see the cleaned pieces. Best regards :-)

Good work Pierre. My hat goes off to any field collector – hard work with problematic results. You scored well and should be proud of your efforts.

Many thanks for sharing your field collecting photos. I have family and friends in South Africa who constantly tell me about just how beautiful the Cape can be.

Have you ever had an opportunity to visit Orania? It is a truly remarkable place, and highlights the industry and intellect of the Afrikaan people. It is an oasis in the desert and from the air you can see this little green jewel for miles, as it contrasts with the arid land that surrounds it.

Hi RA, thank you! I have never been to Orania, but as I understand, it is a well managed community. The Western Cape is indeed a unique and beautiful place. I have taken a number of overseas visitors on trips around the Cape and the reaction is always the same; they are overwhelmed. Kind regards.

What did you do on the first day of 2019? I went looking for crystals on a remote farm. Going was tough and I moved a lot of soil and rocks for little crystals, but it was great fun being alone in nature, and with a chance of finding a nice pocket.

This past Saturday was nice and cool, so I drove out to a remote farm to look for crystals. The last bit of farm road was bad and I hit a large rock. I still have to assess the damage:-( I walked for about a km and tried every spot that showed some interest. One spot proved to be the jackpot of the day as It was a good pocket that yielded many beautiful crystals. I must have spent about 4 hours removing the content of this pocket. I reached my car at dark and proceeded home, tired but fulfilled.

PIERRE, Really nice quartz crystals. I am sure they will clean up just fine!

Not sure about Joan M B's calling them a "geode"???

Geodes are a specific rock structure containing one or several minerals; do these quartz crystals have anything to do with geodes where they are collected? Bob
