I think it is important to view private collections, it gives you a sense of what others enjoy and let's you compare pieces and see how common, or rare, they are.
Jim and I have had the great pleasure of viewing many, many collections and what a great way to get to know others!
I understand there are those that hide their collections away, and that is sad to me, but I know they have a variety of reasons that make sense.
When we invite people into our homes we see what they enjoy and get to talk about our specimens, which keeps us on our toes and reminds us to stay on top of all the mineral names. It also makes me happy to cook for people, wine and dine them and talk with them about their jobs, lives, children and interests.
Mineral people are, in general, very social.
I know Jim and I are!

Thank You Gail for posting all these wonderful pictures. I especially enjoyed the mineral pic, but it was fun to see pics of mary and Jim Walker and Irv Brown who I know from my years in Fallbrook. The rest of you, it's nice to see faces to go with the names of so many of you that I've heard of over the years.
