Javier,

I always like your specimens, always nice to look at. I have a question about the 4.5 cm austinite, are you sure it is austinite and not smithsonite?

Thanks Jean, I'm always looking for three things in the minerals for my collection, with good brightness, color and especially aesthetics, is the size for my second term, is more interesting to my one piece with these three qualities. And as for the Austinite I check some parts in Mindat and match all these characteristics.

Javier,

I believe that just comparing images with your specimen is not enough to determinate species. In my opinion your "austinite" is colorless Adamite. I had some very similar (analyzed) from China.

The best would be to analyze it if you have the chance to do it.

Jordi

Sounds good. On the meantime I changed in your post "Austinite" by "Austinite?"

The main mineral on your vanadinite from San Antonio looks orthorhombic or tetragonal. Am I wrong? Is it hexagonal?

javmex2 proposed this specimen for discussion here -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=2045 and is still unclear for me what species it is. I'm waiting the opinion of Peter Megaw or Dennis Beals whom with their great knowledge about Mexican minerals maybe could help.

If the question is " Is this a vanadinite?" I would say Yes. I have seen crystals like this - I think the San Carlos Mine in Chihuahua produced crystals very much like this.

Gneiss - yes I guess I really was questioning if it was vanadinite. I spent some time on mindat looking for pictures of vanadinite that looked like javmex's specimen but couldn't find any. Your reference to the San Carlos mine brought up many pictures that look just like javmex's specimen. Very interesting. What a crazy vanadinite habit.

Thanks javmex for bringing this interesting habit to my attention, and thanks to gneiss for showing that vanadinite can look like that.
