How to start a new Topic

Hi everyone

This explains how to start a new Topic in the correct section of the FMF.

FMF is divided into sections and then each section is divided into forums and sub-forums.

So before you start a new Topic we recommend that you look carefully at this structure so that you are clear where is the best place to open the Topic so that it is in the right place and can be found quickly. This will encourage, along with following other guidelines and clarity, the participation of other members and the largest number of responses.

Different Sub-forums and Topics

Once you are clear where you want to open the new Topic, you have two options:

1.-) Click on the heading of the sub-forum, for example: ‘Minerals and Mineralogy’; ‘Questions about mineral specimens’; ‘What is it? – Where is it from’?;etc.

2.-) If the sub-forum has a large number of Topics, at the bottom of it click on “See all topics”
Whichever of these you do a new page will open and you will be able to see all the topics in the section of the Forum and at the top and bottom you will see a button “New Topic”.

3.-) Click on the “New Topic” button and a window will open in which you can write your message.

4.-) In the ‘Subject’ try to give as descriptive a title as is possible. This will help other members understand what the Topic is about and will also help you (and other people) find the information again in the future.

5.-) Once you have written the message you can add images or photos as is explained by this link

6.-) Once you have written the message and added any images you want to include you can preview the message by clicking on the button “Preview”. This lets you see what the message will look like without actually publishing it. You can then check it and make any edits you want, add any other photos, do a spell check, etc.

7.-) Once you are happy with how it looks you click on the “Submit” button and your new Topic will be published on the FMF, and its title will appear in the ‘Last postings’ list at the upper right of the screen.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I cannot read the information on new topic headings - the wording is very blurred, or should it all open in another page if I click somewhere?!

Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks -

Alan Bartlett

This picture is not that clear, but the page where you do this should be clear. Click on the 'Index' then look at the structure.

Is it possible to edit your posts to put their contents into one post of "my collection". I have several posts with a few specimen photos in each now. Thanks!

Jim
