I have plenty of field guides but nothing incredibly informative, just info on certain specimens. I would like to know more about the rocks and minerals than field guides share, such as their formation, their history, their locality, where to find them, stuff like that. The best book I have is Rock and Gem, from DK publishing
Online or in a bookstore I don't care where I have to buy it. A text book would be a great idea if there are Rock and Mineral text books out there I have looked at books in this forum topic and there are some good ones but I live in the states and don't really need to know, at least not right now, about minerals in Brazil and in other countries, I am still just a beginner at this. _________________ Daniel |

Daniel, one book you might consider, that should be readily available, is the "Roadside Geology of Washington". It will give you an overview of whats under your feet. Not too simple, not too complicated. Some basic geology, and where to go to see it. Shows rock types and stratification of those rocks, and where to go to find those types. Points of geologic interest and all that. You are in Washington state eh? Put your boots on and take a hike, lots of geology out there! Good Luck! |
