Photoatlas of inclusions in gemstones, by E.J.Gubelin and J.I.Koivula (fifth edition is 2008)
This is a three volume illustrated encyclopedia (english language).
That is THE reference book about inclusions. It is really expensive but if one has any interest in the matter, it's truly worth it.
Let's note that Koivula also made a smaller illustrated book specifically about diamond inclusions: 'The MicroWorld of Diamonds' |

Hi to evrybody! Yes, I can confirm everything you already said: all of the three volumes of this gemmology masterpiece are very well done! I think every respectable mineralogist and gemmologist should have and read them! And moreover this is a good memory of Eduard Gùbelin, who was one of the most well-known gemmologist and researcher in the world and died before having this volume printed!
Greetings froom Italy by Riccardo. _________________ Hi! I'm a collector of minerals since 1973 and a gemmologist. On Summer I always visit mines and quarries all over Europe looking for minerals! Ok, there is time to tell you much much more! Greetings from Italy by Riccardo. |

Hi, you will find that John Koivula's books are known by many here on FMF; see John White's thread for an announcement of the release of the third volume: https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=1112
And to stay in keeping with the forum's theme of minerals which haven't seen the hand of the lapidary, there is a thread which is meant to explore the world of inclusions as seen within intact mineral specimens and in relation to the crystallography of both the host and the guest. https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=1920 It has shaken loose from the tree some of the forum's most unusual specimens, along with some amazing as well as instructive photography.
Best wishes,

You can be sure I've visited this thread in the first place, as I just love inclusion specimens :-) |
