Hey there!

Im new at this forum.. My name is Andreas (35 year) and i leave in Sweden.. Love geology and prospecting, being out at the nature etc ( short presentation ). Have tons of questions but here are my 3 first ones for you all..

1. What kind of stucture/bedrock am i dealing with? Hydrothermal vein?
2. What kind of sulpihide on picture (using USB microscoop)? Dont think it´s pyrite.. Not sure.. (arsenopyrite?)
3. Which sulfides can I expect in this structure?
4. And why are the quartz light green? Contained with nickel, galena or something else?

What think i can see on the formation is: (lightgreen quartz, calcite, feldspar, amethyst or fluorite?

My metal detector (Falcon md 20 gives positive signals when i point at x sulphide)..

Hello Elgreba!

Hard ancient rocks with sulphides.... my favorite kind ;))

Green quartz: perhaps colored by silicate inclusions (eg: chlorite or amphiboles?), or by secondary Cu or Ni minerals? Try soaking them in acid for a day; if the color doesn't dissolve away, then you might be dealing with microscopic silicate inclusions.

Metallic mineral: Perhaps you have pyrrhotite instead of pyrite. Check it with a magnet hanging on a string... Does it attract? Pyrrhotite tends to have a more lamellar structure than pyrite, it is electrically conductive (hence positive signal on the Falcon), and usually magnetic.

Let us know what you find out.

Hey Alfredo and thank you for the answer!

I will do the acid test as you suggested, great idea! The sulphide isn´t noticeably magnetic but indicates metal with the falcon?.. really hope the quartz contains sulphides such cu and nickel even arsenopyrite, couse it could indicate au if im lucky.. Went out yesterday and found a quartz vein that certainly contained aresenopyrite just 20 meters from where i found the "strange vein described above and unknown sulphide.. It did indeed smell like "garlic" when i smashed the hammer into it.. Here some pictures of that quartz vein and what it looks like a heavy mineralized bedrock.. :) I´l keep you guys updated but have to wait for spring (to much snow).. Ps. did send some for assay.
