I know this is totally off topic but the weather here is exciting and i wanted to share it with you all.
We are having a raging chinook tonight with winds expected to be 65 to 80 mph (105 to 128 kph) with gusts to 110 mph (177 kph). The temperature has warmed up to >40F (4.5C) with dew points above freezing, and it is raining. This means that everything above the ground is melting quickly, but when the meltwater hits the cold ground it refreezes. I just tried to go out for a short walk but i didn't get far because everything is ice! I love interesting weather!
It may also be interesting for you to know that today the sun rose at 9:50am and set at 3:50pm, and the sun rose to no more than 6.95 degrees off the horizon (at solar noon). We are currently losing more than 3 minutes of sunlight/day.
Tucson will surely feel good come February. |

Living in Barcelona, Spain, the weather you describe doesn't looks to me so much "interesting" ;-) |

Hi, Matt
To myself, living in Maresme, that is even milder than in Barcelona, your description of Alaska weather makes me froze only reading.... Brrrrrrrrrrrr!
I have seen only snow three times at the seaside....
I adhere to Jordi point of view...
With best wishes

Matt, I feel for you! I lived in Ontario for three years and got tired of dressing in multiple layers. Life near Dallas, Texas is far less exciting until we had over 100 days of higher than 100 degrees in a row this past summer. I still think I will take the heat over the cold !!! Best of luck to you, I like my sunshine! _________________ Minerals you say? Why yes, I'll take a dozen or so... |

Hi Matt and everyone,
In the winter of 1996/97 I had arranged for a couple of fellas to come to our shop out in Wasilla to give a turbine engine class for our mechanics. At the time I talked to them I told them to rent a car with a block heater.
Well the day they arrived it had warmed up into the mid 40's so they decided to forego the block heater. They got in that evening and went straight to the hotel and the next morning it was 27 below. My crew and I were standing around drinking coffee and eating doughnuts when we got a call from the engine reps that they needed a ride from the hotel.
The weather there can change fast.

Matt,
I thought the 36F we had last night was cold. A few days ago we got hit with high winds of 40 to 60 mph (and a maximum gust of 102 mph) which snapped trees like matchsticks. But to add in rain and 4 minutes (ok, 7 hours) of sunlight each day.....that is some harsh environment. You are a tougher guy than I.

Yeah well, here in Shafter, Texas we're still running our air conditioners in the hot afternoons.
C'est la vie, que no?
