I don't know about such reports, but i've only seen smaller and thinner Bavarian beryls than this one.

I took another trip today to feed you with more photos :) The museum is a medieval building without modern heat insulation, so the 30 °C outside were not that funny when i visited the attic floor. But i made this sacrifice willingly for the pleasure of the FMF community ;) Here we go:

Regarding the photo of the 2 rubellite specimens - I don't know of any locality in New York state (I am originally from that state) that produced tourmaline like the one shown. Pierrepont, New York (in St. Lawrence County), has been famous for its black uvite crystals.

Thank you for that information, Susan! It would surprise me if the museum provides an incorrect locality, but mistakes can always happen. If i see curator Prof. Dr. Masberg the next time, i will ask him where they got the specimen and the locality information from.

I concur with Susan. While famous for well-formed black uvite crystals, I have never seen or heard of colored tourmaline from Pierrepont. The crystal looks to me as if it could be from the Stewart Mine in California.
