PostPosted: Apr 20, 2012 00:27    Post subject: Minerals in a Jalgaon specimen

1) The Indian dealer I bought this from said that this piece comes from the Sanda Mine. I looked at mindat and see a locality at Savada (Sawda; Paldhi; Jalgaon), Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India and I'll bet this is the one this piece comes from. Does anyone else have an opinion?

2) There is a white lusterous translucent spherical aggregate (2.3 cm diameter) below the calcite that i thought might be goosecreekite, but there is a picture on mindat from Savada showing something similar that is listed as Epistilbite. Any opinions on what this mineral could be.

3) The pink (3.3cm long, lusterous, and transparent in areas) mineral on the right side of the specimen seemed to me at first to be heulandite. But there are some pictures on mindat for Savada listed as stilbite (Photo ID: 74751, Photo ID: 64849) that look similar. Is it possible that I have stilbite rather than heulandite?

Thanks.

Heulandite, no doubt, but the image of the white mineral is too fuzzy to allow a guess.

I agree.

About the locality, it could be Savada and it could be any other part of the Deccan trap, because some Indian dealers tends don't be too much accurate about precise localities.

In my opinion, locality Savada mines is correct. Minerals in the specimens are Calcite, Stellerite & Heulandite on chalcedony.

Agree with Milind,
this is classic Savda (Jalgaon). You have there calcite, heulandite quartz and stellerite.
