Wishing FMFers in the Eastern US who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy all the best. As of this morning over 7 million people are without power across many states, many areas are flooded, and numerous "states of emergency" have been declared. If you were impacted by the storm, I hope things return to normal quickly and that you and your loved ones (and your minerals) are all safe.

- Tracy (waiting out the storm from very windy Toronto)

Hi Tracy!
I heard about this terrible hurricane still destroying the US East Coast. I hope and wish no one of the people I know (including FMF- and Mindat-Forumers) had to sacrifice one's life for it, and I wish all of you may get back home well and healthy without any loss, human or material.
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

My warmest wishes for all people injured or affected by Sandy. The images seen in the TV are heartbreaking.

In fact, FMF also resulted a little bit affected for this Hurricane. As you can see here: Server failure, yesterday our server broke during several hours due the lack of power of our server OLM (and fuel to feed their alternative generators)

Again, our best from FMF to all affected for Sandy

Western Carolinas Red Cross is sending many resources, people, food, clothing and vehicles to the northeast. Each volunteer is dedicating the next two weeks, then we will see if more are needed to replace those. Thanks to all for the thoughts and concerns.

Thanks for the kind wishes. This has been a pretty tough week for me, even though I'm not physically there and my troubles are minor in the grand scheme of things. I hope we will all be back to normal soon.

I am loosely associated with Aurora Minerals in Freeport, Long Island, NY.. His shop is one block in from the sea on the south shore and was hit by the storm surge of Sandy. Harvey Siegel is owner of the 14000 sf. warehouse filled with every sort of mineral related item. It was flooded with 2.5 feet of sea water and had the roof blown off. I just returned to western MA. from a disaster relief trip to Freeport. What follows are a few shots of the problems he had, I didn't take time to take many pics as there was to much work to do and little time. He didn't get hit as bad as some but was surrounded by devastation, power outages, gas lines and boats on their sides in the parking lot, a real mess. These shots don't convey the problems. Rebuilding continues.

My heart goes out to all those who were impacted by the storm. Donations can be made to the Red Cross, if anyone wishes. My house is OK but I'm still waiting for power to be restored, 11 days later. I'm hopeful for early next week and in the meantime am staying away.
