Hi David!
Don't worry about French! I don't speak it so well, but I understand it! On the other hand... we are both Latin, therefore our languages are a little similar! And... you have all the time to improve your Italian as well!
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

Bye, DAVID

Hi all. I'm a new member to this forum, from Whitchurch, Hampshire, UK. I'm in my 40s now but got interested in minerals aged about 10 and started collecting to a small extent in the early 1980s. Through the mid 80s to late 90s I left the hobby but got back into it about 20 years ago after finding Gregory. Botley & Lloyds in SW London, and then the Kempton Park Rock n Gem shows.
My interests are mainly gem minerals and crystal specimens e.g. topaz, beryl, corundum, zircon, spinel etc. The latter has recently become a particular favourite because of the vivid and saturated colours that this mineral can occur in. I only have a limited budget so can only dream and drool over some of the specimens pictured here!
I look forward to participating further.
Regards,
Nick

|
|
Greetings,
I currently live in Minnesota, USA. I grew up (my first 28 years) in the Republic of Panama and most of my experience with minerals was with cryptocrystalline quartz material (jasper, agate, chalcedony, etc).
When I left Panama I took about two tons of material with me. The thought was to become a lapidary and work the items into jewelry and who knows what else.
From a young age I was always fascinated with mineral specimens. My father was a civil engineer and we had two separate books on minerals and I spent hours looking through them at all the shapes and colors.
I would like to find a way to find and gather mineral specimens on my own some day.
Cheers,
Antonio

Hi Antonio,
I don't know if you are near Lake Superior, but you can purchase "The Rock Pickers Guide to the North Shore", and look for agates, thomsonite, and other minerals formed in basalt along that area of Lake Superior. A good shop to visit to find what is available for collecting from both the owner and the books he sells, is Agate City Shop in Two Harbors, run by Bob Lynch.
You can also visit the Iron Range area, and see open pit mining at Hibbing. An underground tour is available at the Soudan mine at Tower, MN. Iron World has a large museum showing some of the local minerals and the history of iron mining in the region.
I hope this information is helpful for you,
Susan Robinson

Good day
My name is Jannie Groenewald, a conservation biologist from the Tip of Africa. I have been collecting minerals and rocks from a young age and got a nice collection of mostly southern African rocks. Lots of them I cannot identify and I hope this forum can help.

Hello from Finland!
I'm Kara, 45 years old female biologist and a newbie rock hobbyist. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, northern adventuring and on my nature adventures I have collected lots of different rocks for fun. My mineral identification skills are poor so I am hoping you pros can help me with my questions sometimes. Thank you for the great forum you have here! In the pic my same-spirited friend for I'm behind the camera :D

Hi Kara.
Wellcome to FMF.
Casually i have a Finnish sister-in-law.
I´ve visited the south third of Finland, a natural paradise all green: Tampere, Vaasa, Kuopio and Mikkeli with the thousand lakes, Porvoo and Helsinki.
We wish your rocks and adventures could be as nice and interesting as the country.
Regards.

I have registered with your wonderful website and am looking forward to getting to know the community here!
My name is Aaron, I'm an American living in Japan, and over the last few years have become fascinated (borderline obsession) with all things rocks and minerals. I mostly collect in rivers/abandoned mines and fee sites here in Japan. I have found a lot of interesting stuff! Occasionally I will call upon your help to figure out what it is.
I can spend a whole day (or three) studying skarn outcrops, searching granite plutons for pegmatite, or sifting through tailings at old mines. My wife thinks I'm a bit off my rocker but recently she has become quite interested in finding Jade and agates herself. A win for me!
My other interests include bonsai, suiseki, Boston Celtics, Red Sox and the best NFL franchise to ever walk the planet - your NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS!. Probably from that you can guess what part of the States I grew up in.
Anyway, Yoroshiku Onegai Shimasu! (Nice to make your acquaintance)
