Hello, my name is Kevin, I have a lot of crystals and minerals and hope to post photos and identify them. I haven`t learned to post on the forum. I have only been able to reply to a thread ? I am not sure, really just joined. But I particularly have an orange cabochon with some small veins (stratifications, swirls of different color/shade of orange. I don`t think it`s agate ... maybe a rare Jasper ? I don`t know. But I have dozens of specimens I would like to identify. Regards |

I currently live in Minnesota, USA. I grew up (my first 28 years) in the Republic of Panama and most of my experience with minerals was with cryptocrystalline quartz material (jasper, agate, chalcedony, etc).
When I left Panama I took about two tons of material with me. The thought was to become a lapidary and work the items into jewelry and who knows what else.
From a young age I was always fascinated with mineral specimens. My father was a civil engineer and we had two separate books on minerals and I spent hours looking through them at all the shapes and colors.
I would like to find a way to find and gather mineral specimens on my own some day.
Cheers,

Antonio, nice to meet you. I just joined, my name is Kevin. In your travels in Panama did you ever come across Black Opal ? I don`t know if it was the same as Australian Opal which I believe (???) occurs in prehistoric ocean beds. I don`t know where black Opal occurs. I used to have a Honduran black opal cabochon, but I don`t know where it is. Anyway, do you have a lot of material from when you were in Panama, and what are some of the great stuff ? Did you ever set up the lapidary stuff ? Kevin |

Welcome to FMF Kevin.
Please read carefully: A general guide for using the Forum with some rules and tips
Please note also that as explained here FMF is a Forum about minerals, FMF is not a Forum about jewels, driveway gravel or lapidary items. Thanks for the understanding. |

Hi all!
My name is Kim. I live in S.E. Idaho.
I am originally from Michigan where my love of rocks started at a very young age. Cutting teeth on rocks from Grand Traverse Bay.
I have lived in Idaho for most of my life, but I have a deep love of strolling the shores staring at the rocks below my feet.
I am a product of the late 60's, which should clue you to my age... A lady never reveals her true age!
I am a dental hygienist. I am an Associate Clinical Professor at Idaho State University and have been teaching for 20+ years. I also work in a private dental office 1 day a week.
We have a combined family of his, mine, ours and theirs. Together my husband and I have 6 children!! He had 2 and I had 2 when we married. We had one child together and then adopted my step-sons half brother (I know it all sounds backwoods!). Our youngest is 16 and our oldest is 28. We have 5 boys and 1 girl.
No grandchildren yet!
We are a family of skiers and snowboarders. My youngest started skiing at age 2 and could be olympic material.
We love the outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, skiing and of course collecting rocks. I am not sure if that is genetic, but all of our kids love rocks too !
Our most recent rock/mineral endeavors have led us down the trail of corundum and maybe diamond? I just figured out why I have been having so much trouble identifying exactly what we have been cleaning up. Almost all of it is Trapiche! Beautiful indeed!
My skills as a dental hygienist definitely aid in my ability to clean up rough. I am amazed at what just a simple toothbrush can accomplish. I am also most pleased with the minimal cleaning to let the original beauty of the specimen be seen.
I look forward to participating and learning from the knowledge and photos shared here on the forum!! |

Hello,
My name is Dan Zellner and I am a mineral enthusiast located in Denver, Colorado, USA. I am a mining engineer by trade and in my spare time I am a field collector and part time mineral dealer. I have collected mainly around California and Colorado and hope to collect many more localities in the future. My main collecting interests include gem pegmatites, smithsonite, and fluorites, but I am also a sucker for rare minerals and old localities. I am thankful to be added to this mineral forum and I look forward to getting to know the members better and furthering my mineral knowledge.
Best Regards,
Dan |
