I have the opportunity to travel to Bejing and Shanghai in October with my husband on a business trip. We will only be in each city a few days. During the day while he is working, I will have free time to explore on my own.
Does any one know of rock and mineral clubs or shops in either city. I would love to bring home a few specimens from China. I am not looking for costly, museum-quality pieces but something more moderately price that is representative of the areas.
I could possibly bring self-collected specimens from San Diego County, California, USA tourmaline mines for trade if I could contact a collector in these cities.
I regret not posting a similar question two years ago when I went along with him to London and Barcelona. I did spend a short time looking thru rocks along the bank of the Thames River and came home with some flint nodules, a piece of petrified wood and several fossils. _________________ EllenMoe

You could contact Dr. Guanghua Liu of aaamineral.com His email starts with ghliu. He has written several books on the minerals of China and is a veryfriendly guy. He is also well connected with the Chinese mineral clubs.
Arkenstone now has a gallery in Shanghai...others are based in Guilin and Changsha

There is a club in Hong Kong, should you head that way. And there are a few stores (with links from the club's web site)

I cannot give an opinion on any of the stores as I am yet to visit them
