As usual, a splendid specimen and a great photo - I guess cassiterite is not easy to photograph. But what are the green/blue areas on the matrix, a copper mineral?

Thank you, Tobi.
Regarding the blue areas, I don't know what they are, but I consider them as negligible. Probably something like Blu-Tack from the previous owner. I'll try to clean them.

Manganite
Very bright and lustrous, well formed, jet-black prismatic crystals of manganite. The plate has dozens of sharp columns up to 18 mm tall, striated according to the c-axis with the typical rough flat terminations, densely covering the top of an 110 mm x 54 mm x 39 mm massive manganite matrix. Mass: 347 g. I can't see any damage with my naked eye except in the periphery. An old-time European classic from the type locality that set the standard for the species (and still does). Put on sale in the XIX century by the German dealer Dr. Adam August Krantz (1808-1872), as seen in the label that comes with it. He was then one of the foremost mineral dealers in Europe, established in Bonn from 1850 until his death. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_August_Krantz

Finally something new from your collection, Carles :-) And really GREAT news, as it seems: Congratulations to that specimen, you added one of Europe's most desired classics in superb quality to your collection! I have seen many of these famous Ilfeld manganites in German collections, and even many museums don't own a specimen like that. And even with an old Krantz label! Simply fantastic :-)

Tobi, you are fortunate for living at about 200 km from Ilfeld (and Sankt Andreasberg, and Neudorf...). Just one-day round trip and you are able to collect something. For free. Some people at Ilfeld found a rich manganite dump under a 400 y/o oak tree several years ago.

Tobi
We could always start a series of threads along the lines of "XXXX's most desired classic". If we are talking about Europe, I want a Siderite box!

Tetrahedrite, hübnerite, quartz
A crowd of metallic tetrahedrite crystals, the biggest of which is 25 mm on edge, is perched on a large cluster of colorless quartz crystals. The major of these is 86 mm tall, and they are mostly transparent with a somewhat frosted surface making it translucent white. As a little surprise a hübnerite crystal can be spotted just at the geometrical center of the photo, partly overlapping the white main quartz. It is 17 mm long and 7.5 mm wide, and is embedded between quartz and tetrahedrite. When backlit in the right way it shows the typical deep red color. The whole specimen weighs 137 g and measures 92 mm x 61 mm.

Beryl, muscovite
Pale blue transparent beryl crystal, with the usual hexagonal prismatic habit and a complex termination showing at least ten faces. Surrounded by a number of large hexagonal crystals of muscovite. A minor beryl cristal near the right bottom, contacted on the tip. All covering a white compact feldspar matrix. Overall size: 100mm x 88mm x 76mm; main beryl crystal: 38mm tall (visible part) and 20mm wide. Mass: 448g. No damage can be seen with my naked eye and I guess neither with a magnifying glass. The main beryl crystal is perfect and complete 360º.

I can't remember having ever seen a mineral photo used as a cover of a music record. But perhaps there are a lot of them and I didn't know.
Just as a curiosity (and an honor for the specimen as well), the pyrite which photo was posted here has been recently taken to fill the cover of the Amsterdam based band Jungle by Night's Livingstone album. Here is a reproduction of it.
JungleByNight-Album.jpg
Mineral:
Pyrite
Locality:
Ampliación a Victoria Mine, De Alcarama Range, Navajún, Comarca Cervera, La Rioja, Spain
Dimensions:
95 mm x 78 mm. Main crystal: 52 mm wide, 31 mm on edge. Weight: 512 g
Description:
Photo on the album cover (CD and "vinyl" records). (Note: Livingstone is just the record title, so it doesn't mean to be a living stone.)

An interesting question, I never thought about that :-) But I googled it and indeed there are some CD covers with minerals:
- Open Fire feat. Daniel Johns: Slumberjack (shows a broken Rock Crystal)
- Crystal Brass: Best of Brass (also a Rock Crystal cluster)
- Anna Vogelzang: Hiker (shows an Amethyst)
- Mesiko: Solar Door (shows something that could also be a broken Amethyst piece)
And of course
- Jungle by Night: Livingstone - showing Carles' Navajun Pyrite :-)

I guess there are more ...
Thank you, Tobi. Good search!
I think the guys in Jungle By Night chose a mineral for the record cover because its title was going to be Livingstone, that in some way could be linked to a living stone (which does not exist in our planet). One of them opened the Mindat site and found such an inexpensive pyrite but with an attractive photo impossible to replicate (great things happen only once).
