Thanks Tobi - yes, mother nature has done a good job here.
A clean beryl prism from a classic district.
Transmitted light creates spectacular shades of green on such crystals.
Host rock is black shale.

Beryl crystals are associated with lustrous semi-translucent dolomite on a dark grey shale host rock covered with a bed of albite.

Today's post from Elise reminded me there was a 'Best examples of trapiche emerald crystals' thread, but it didn't take me long to decide which thread the photos of this specimen should belong to.
Surely not the best example. But that's what they look like before being taken out of the matrix, cleaned, sliced, and faceted.
The trapiches have a central intense green hexagonal core.
Host rock is a fine-grained bedded dolomitic limestone.

Dark grey rhombs are dolomite.
The small laminated mineral could be muscovite mica.
The specimen is scattered with a snow-white mineral (could be calcite but I'm unsure).

Yet another oddity from Chivor.
This is the only specimen with a fan-shaped habit I came across during my numerous trips to Colombia.
Some of these radiating crystals have actually a flat basal termination.

Strangely enough, main issue is availability Tobi.
For some odd reasons, prices in the Bogota market are usually driven by the size and color.
These clear crystals tend to be pretty small. When they are just a few mm long, you could end up with a real bargain.
And the fact that these specimens are difficult to find doesn't necessarily make them expensive.
This somehow exotic pricing scheme is one of the many paradoxes the foreign visitors to Colombia have to deal with. Doesn't make the country less attractive!

Small crystal but with good clarity.
Unusual termination but very likely the top end of the crystal was contacted.
Host rock is grey laminated shale.

Clarity can take various forms.
These specimens with a hollow interior are also called tapered emeralds in the literature.
They are only found in the Chivor district.
The cavities extend from an opening on the termination across almost the entire length of the crystal.
Useless to say that tapered emeralds are very uncommon and I was extremely lucky to get that one.
I couldn't find any convincing explanation on the origin of these cavities.
